Potštát · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Demonology of Potštát

One of the former stewards of the Potštát estate was a werewolf. At the time, murders of children were increasing in the area, and eventually it was discovered that the steward changed into a wolf at night. The transformation involved a particular somersault over a log. The wolf was caught and killed, but at the moment of death changed back into a man. People said that after his death the earth refused to accept him. His head had to be separated from his body, his limbs cut off, and his remains taken to the accursed burial ground at Smolná. A woman also once lived here who turned into a night demon, a succubus, and sucked men’s blood as they slept. She could assume various shapes and even squeeze through a keyhole in the form of an ear of grain. (See Velký Újezd.)
