A duke called Dragon once owned the castle. He killed not only his subjects but also chance travellers, so everyone kept well away. In this way the tyrant amassed great wealth. As he lay dying, lightning struck his castle thirty times. The devil was already waiting impatiently for his soul, but wanted to take his treasures as well. In the darkness, however, he supposedly gathered nothing but rocks instead of gold. He reached the Vihorlat Mountains with his heavy load and fell asleep, utterly exhausted. Only the glow of dawn woke him. Startled, the devil leapt from the rock, the ground collapsed beneath him, and thus Vihorlat’s “sea eye” lake was formed.
