Below the ancient Slavník hillfort was a pool called Libuše’s Bath. A sacred crowned snake king lived there, protecting fire, the household hearth and happiness. Princess Libuše is said to be buried here with her treasure and the little golden frogs she used for divination. After death she appeared here as a White Lady, turned into a golden duck at midnight and disappeared among the reeds. Opposite the hillfort, on the left bank of the Cidlina, stands the conical hill Kuchyňka. Libuše’s ghost emerged from there, and also appeared on the Cidlina below the hillfort. Stories also tell of secret underground passages supposedly connecting Libice with Oškobrh. Legend says that a leather bridge linked the two places as well.
