The devil once hauled stone from the rocky Vršek near Batelov to build his castle north of Rohozná, at the place now called Čertův hrádek. It is a hill (714 m) whose rocky summit resembles a ruined castle. According to legend, the fiend never completed his stronghold because the morning crowing of a cockerel caught him unawares. Only scattered stones from Batelov to Hrádek testify to his labours. He dropped one stone on Vršek near Batelov. The boulder has an opening called the Devil’s Carriage, where the devil was said to shelter from bad weather. K. H. Borovský often spent time here and has a memorial plaque at the site.
