At an unearthly hour of night, the ghost of the wicked estate steward Gaiger appeared here. People said that he could find no peace in his grave and therefore had to cut chaff on a chopping bench. When the story became too widespread, executioners were summoned and split open the corpse’s skull. The head is buried in the cemetery and the body at the edge of the Batelov lands, beside the woodland called Holejna. Gaiger is said to have died in 1827.
