The town has a pilgrimage church dedicated to the Virgin Mary that was once visited in great numbers. According to local legend, the devil could not accept the cult of the Virgin Mary here. He therefore wagered with the sacristan that he could carry an enormous boulder from the Krkonoše Mountains to the church at Sloup before the priest finished celebrating Mass. He ultimately lost the bet, angrily hurled the stone to the ground and drove it deep into the earth. This is today’s Hřebenáč, also called the Devil’s Stone.
