Ticholovec

Southeast of the town, above Přichovice village, rises Ticholovec Hill (483 m). Legend says St Adalbert passed this way while returning home from Rome via Regensburg, accompanied by twelve Benedictine monks who later founded the monastery at Prague-Břevnov. Legends trace his journey from the border, and supposed relics of his stay survive nearby. According to the tale, a poor woman and her children were gathering wood in the forest. Hearing branches crack, she turned and saw the travellers. She supposedly exclaimed, “Children, quiet, a hunter is coming!” — in Czech, “ticho, lovec jde.” St Adalbert then decided that the place would henceforth be called Ticholovec. He left the rocks, but the shadow of his form remained on the rock face. Later an image of St Adalbert was painted on it. Early in this century, most of the rocks were blasted away; only the rock bearing the saint’s image survived. (See Chudenice, Poleň and Nepomuk.)
