This picturesque rock town, where numerous human-shaped sandstone formations constantly stir the imagination, once held a prehistoric hillfort. People say that the robber Babinský’s treasure is hidden in the Ve fortně gorge or somewhere nearby. An enigmatic inscription is carved in the gorge: ten mysterious-looking “celestial” signs which some nineteenth-century researchers considered runes. No one has yet deciphered it. Similar marks carved into the rock occur occasionally elsewhere in the Prachov Rocks. Legend links Babinský’s activities here to a rock group called Babinec.
