The castle of Drahuš, belonging to the Lučané, once stood here. Around 1120 the Benedictine monastery Porta Apostolorum was founded at the site. The town’s name was long explained as a popular corruption of the monastery’s name. Today another explanation has become accepted, already given by Hájek of Libočany: this was a village of people who “postoly prtali,” meaning that they repaired boots.
