Across the river opposite the castle ruins are the Golden Pits, allegedly exits from a secret passage from Benešov nad Ploučnicí to the castle. A White Lady appears here, supposedly the former lady Matylda. A Franconian knight abducted her and built the castle for her. Years later her father found them and fought the knight. Desperate, Matylda jumped into the Ploučnice. Her ghost appears ever since. In winter warm vapours rise from the basalt fissures; people say Matylda heats her home and cooks inside the hill.
