North of Nicov stretches the extensive Kákov forest with Kákovský kámen hill (655 m). Legend says this wildly shaped gneiss rock arose when the devil failed to complete a task set by a local forester who had sold himself to him. He was to bring a great mountain of gold in one night, but a rooster crowed and he had to drop his burden. The gold sank into the ground and became today’s Black Stones. The Great Stone was also formed, still showing traces of the devil’s rampage. One falling stone killed the forester too. A spring allegedly gushed from the spot where he died and soon became known for healing powers: today’s Nicov spring. Kákovský kámen is also said to be a petrified castle. (See Myslív.)
