Měděnec · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Blue Girl at the Black Pond

A footpath leads from Kotliny to Ptačí hejno hill (850 m) above Měděnec, passing a small marshy hollow called the Black Pond. Every Friday night the ghost of a girl in a blue dress and white veil appears here. In autumn she holds a cup of fruit, which she offers to passers-by. She is said to have come from the château in Venkov, whose remains lie nearby in the forest. Unhappy love drove her to drown herself in the Black Pond, and her soul finds no peace after death.
