Above Lomnice rises the hill now called Tábor (682 m), a pilgrimage site since Hussite times. Its pilgrimage Church of the Transfiguration contains a cross allegedly given by Prague’s archbishop Arnošt of Pardubice, who stayed here on his journey to Poland. In the early 16th century, stories began to circulate of miracles on Tábor’s summit: lights appeared and bells rang underground. Pilgrims climbing the hill traditionally dragged stones of various sizes with them, because all the material for the church built here was said to have been carried up by hand. Heaps of these stones can still be seen, for instance beside Křížovka Spring on the slope towards Lomnice nad Popelkou. The spring’s water was once believed to have prophetic powers.
