This is the name of the gorge between Bohuňov and Hutě on the old border of Bohemia, through which the Křetínka flows. The devil supposedly once wanted to stop the missionary Methodius from entering Bohemia. He carried boulders from all directions to block the Trstenice Trail along the border. He worked at night, hurling stones so fiercely that sparks flashed, but he failed to finish before dawn, when a cockerel’s crow interrupted him and the Virgin Mary appeared here as well. Furious, the fiend dropped the rock and the entrance to Bohemia was free. Only the jagged rocks remained as a reminder of his efforts. A high cliff rises on the stream’s left bank, with coloured bands visible high up that people regard as images of the Virgin Mary and the cockerel.
