The Devil’s Trough

Between Střečkův kopec and the hill crowned by the pilgrimage church of St Anthony of Padua, a trough is cut into the ground, said to be the work of devils. At its end is a spring where they once lived, tending a fire beneath a great cauldron full of gold coins. A man from Blatnice once coveted their treasures and set out to take them. The devils overturned the heated cauldron; the molten ducats carved out the trough and swept the local adventurer away with them.
