The ghost of the cruel owner of nearby Mydlovar castle, Bedřich of Donín, appeared here. The castle lay southwest of Kostomlaty in a bend of the Elbe. Harnessed to a cart, he raced through darkness while two black figures lashed his naked body with fiery whips. It was supposedly punishment for ordering pregnant women of his estate to build Hladoměř pond's dam. (See Lysá nad Labem.)
