French troops supposedly buried treasure beneath the castle after Napoleon's defeat in Russia, as detachments returned home through the region. Two versions describe its position. In one, a pear tree stood where the Black Tower's shadow fell towards evening; the treasure lay where the tree's shadow fell at six in the afternoon. The other places it where both the castle and the roof of the Hájek forester's lodge can be seen at once.
