Legendary treasures in the area

Several surrounding hills and castles are said to conceal treasures whose access opens on Good Friday during the Passion reading. North of town are the ruins of Rýzmberk, beneath which a knight's spirit enchanted into a dragon guards a treasure. Hidden treasures are also associated with nearby Nový Herštejn and Škarmani hill (535 m) above Slavíkovice. On Dobrá mountain (640 m), southeast of town above Chodská Lhota, a golden calf supposedly lies hidden. It can be obtained only with the so-called golden broom, a magical plant growing there. It is hard to acquire because nobody knows when it will sprout, and once it flowers it disappears.
