At night the ghosts of two figures dressed in white walk around the castle ruins. On seeing a person, they flee with a cry to Děvičky and disappear among its ruins. Legend identifies them as the lord’s daughters, buried in an underground passage after the Swedish invasion of 1645. This passage supposedly leads from the castle beneath the church in Dolní Věstonice. Other underground entrances to Děvičky reportedly began in cellars at Pavlov or at the manor farm in Strachotín, now an agricultural cooperative site. Before the Second World War, local daredevils even set out with sticks and a chain to catch the White Ladies and bring them to the village. They found no one. The White Ladies have now not appeared for a long time.
