North of Vysoká Lípa, a foreign knight pledged to the Devil built his castle Šaunštejn, the Robbers' Castle. His ghost haunted it after death, and people also spoke of treasure hidden somewhere among the rock castle's ruins. Legend links its fate with a wooden hunting lodge later built east of Vysoká Lípa by a wealthy merchant. The lodge burned down, while the castle too fell entirely into ruin, leaving only its worked sandstone base.
