Velké Opatovice · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Devil's Barrels at St Nicholas

Near the village is Velká Roudka, with a hillfort where a castle once stood. A treasure guarded by two fiery dogs is supposedly buried here. The souls of the ruined castle's garrison wander around the hillfort. Nearby is a forest called Spalisko. Before St Nicholas's Day, enormous barrels roll from deep underground, collide and burst, and a devil leaps out of each one.
