A great treasure is supposedly hidden in the castle ruins. Many failed attempts by local people to dig it up are known. Secret underground passages were excavated beneath the castle, leading to the far side of the valley beyond the Stupačka stream. A story tells of a boy whose cap fell into a pit in the ruins. He climbed down after it and deep below met an old man who offered him a choice of many beautiful caps. The boy insisted on having only his own torn cap. He received a lantern as a gift and discovered at home that it was made of gold.
