Týřov- Hrad · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

Twelve White Maidens

One of the oldest Bohemian castles, built by King Václav I on the model of French castles, was a fortress unique in Central Europe. K.H.Mácha once visited its ruins. Twelve enchanted maidens appear here, guarding a hidden treasure. It is a counterpart of the legend known from Karlštejn, but here they are enchanted into little fish in the castle well. (See Karlštejn.)
