A legend of a White Lady is also attached to the romantic ruins of this old castle, built on a phonolite rock. According to one version, she was the ancestress of the Tolštejn family. Another says her name was Svanhild and that she deprived the rightful heirs of a great treasure and the Tolštejn estate. After death she appears among the ruins and waits to be released by a fearless young man. A black dog guards her and accompanies her everywhere. On bright nights and clear days, a beautiful female figure with a youthful, friendly face sometimes appears in one of the ruined window openings, dazzling in her white robe.
