Two settlements once belonged to Temelín: Kaliště and Seton. Gold was mined in the area, and the settlement, belonging to the estates of the Schwarzenbergs and the counts of Nezdašov, was named in the sixteenth century, supposedly as a joke, after the famous and mysterious Scottish Adept, the alchemist Alexander Sethon. This man, also called Cosmopolita and author of Novum Lumen Chymicum, was first imprisoned by the Elector of Saxony and later managed to escape to Kraków, where he passed his secrets to the alchemist Sendivogius. Thus, although the famous Adept never stayed in our lands, an indirect and curious reminder of him remained here.
