Strážnice · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Headless Knight

In the sixteenth century, Strážnice belonged to the Žerotín estate. The family lived in a château rebuilt from an older watch-castle, still said to contain buried treasures. At night a headless knight rode through town in a black carriage. A poor girl freed him by entering the surviving cellar of the old castle through an underground passage and rejoining his head to his body. She supposedly took away some of the treasure.
