A band of robbers once settled in the deserted castle, also called Stařechovice. Their well began to dry up, so their leader signed a pact with the devil, who was to provide them with water. But as the pact was signed, the leader fell into the well. The robbers were frightened, and the castle was then easily captured and burnt, with the robbers killed. During the fire their stolen treasures fell into the cellars and were buried beneath the falling masonry. The ghosts of the slain robbers are said to appear occasionally in the ruins, guarding their treasures.
