The Wicked Steward’s Ghost

According to an entry in the memorial book of the Protivín parish (volume 1, January 1718), a local innkeeper was fined for spreading “godless talk” about the estate steward Záhorka. V. A. J. Záhorka, the cruel steward of the Schwarzenbergs’ Protivín estate, was supposedly seen after his death on the dam of Švarcenberk Pond, whose construction he had overseen while oppressing the labourers obliged to work there. A black dog appeared with his ghost.
