Praděd is the highest peak of Hrubý Jeseník and all Moravia (1,492 m), with a stone lookout tower. It lies on the former border between Moravia and Silesia. Nearby is Petrova skála, surrounded by legends of witches. The mountain’s name personifies a spirit in the form of an old man, the Jeseníky counterpart of Rýbrcoul, or Krakonoš. Numerous legends tell of this benevolent and just figure of the mountains, who guards hidden treasures inside his highest dwelling. (See Petrova skála, Jeseník and other entries.)
