A Version of the Tale “John Given for a Greyhound”

This church once had a bell dedicated to St John. The lord of Chrudim was determined to exchange it for his greyhound. As the bell was being lowered, it slipped away and fell down the rocks into the Chrudimka. As it fell, people heard it ringing: “St John the bell, given for a greyhound.” It plunged into the depths and is said to remain there to this day. Both these Práčov legends are told in many places in Bohemia with only minor variations.
