A rock called Devil’s Rock rises from the forest on a steep hill above Písařovice Brook. Its hollows are said to be marks of witches and devils. In one version the devil threw it here while defending himself from other fiends. Another says it remains from a lost wager with a miller: he promised a new stone mill and diverted river overnight, but was tricked by a hidden rooster crowing before dawn and had to stop. Witches also gathered here. Once a local youth saw them divide a companion’s body into pieces. He kept a stray bone; when they reassembled her, they replaced it with elder wood. He later recognised the girl and exposed her publicly. She fell as if struck, but the witches ambushed him and drove many bristles into his body.
