During the Hussite period, the monks of Mnichovo Hradiště decided to hide their order’s treasure. They melted golden objects and made a golden hen. At night they took it to their farm at Kotel, now part of Osečná, and lowered the great statue into a well. Local people allegedly later found and lifted it, but it apparently covered a spring: the well filled with water, the statue slipped and still rests somewhere in the mud.
