The town once belonged to the queen of Bohemia, and King Přemysl Otakar II was allegedly born here, on the site of today’s house no. 39. F. J. Beckovský recorded the legend in his Messenger of Old Czech Stories. The king later honoured the town with a coat of arms. A secret passage is said to lead from beneath house no. 25 to Kostelíček, into the “treasure cellar”. A prophecy foretelling Přemysl Otakar II’s resurrection was also told here. Treasures were said to have been hidden in several places, especially in the so-called Mencl Alley.
