The devil once became angry with the village of Mělice and wanted to dam the Elbe and flood it. He flew to Hořice for sand, spilling it on the way back. This created the rounded hills stretching from Neratov through Nerad and Živanice to the Elbe at Mělice. A treasure is also said to be hidden in the pond behind the farm at Mělice.
