One of the first owners of the local castle, Peter Paky, supposedly fenced off an ancient healing spring and admitted sick people only for a fee. One day he drove a lame beggar away, who cursed him so that all his gold would turn to stone. Enraged, the lord snatched the beggar’s crutches, thrust them into the ground and beat him. When the poor man crawled to his crutches and pulled them out of the earth, healing water gushed from the holes and restored his health. Meanwhile, the lord’s spring dried up. The abundant new springs gave rise to today’s spa.
