Kurdějov · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Fortified Church’s Secret Exit

Above the village stands the fortified late-Gothic Church of St John the Baptist, dating from the end of the 15th century. Local people sheltered here during Tatar raids. A surviving underground escape passage lined with red brick leads from the nave and is said to emerge as far away as Hustopeče. Others say it leads to the cellar of house no. 1 in Kurdějov.
