Stanislav Rolínek, a local upholstery worker and gifted sculptor, carved a gigantic statue of T. G. Masaryk out of the rock with a fireman’s axe. Only the curiously oversized boots now remain of this 14.5-metre-high statue. Rolínek later entered the Academy of Fine Arts, but soon left Prague. For his local supporter František Burian he carved statues of a sleeping army, St Wenceslas, his crown and the Bohemian lion guarding the knights inside the Rudka Cave, two kilometres to the north.
