The devil once wanted to punish the disobedient inhabitants by flooding the town. He flew to Plázek hill, tearing out stones and throwing them into the Javornice stream. A witch from Kožlany threw a black cock into the air just in time, and it crowed, supposedly where St Lawrence's church now stands. The devil dropped his last boulder and vanished from the rock where he had rested. It has since been called the Devil's Rock and bears his hoofprint. (See Kralovice.)
