Aeneas Sylvius, later Pope Pius II, said of Kozákov that when a shepherd threw a stone at a cow here, it was often worth more than the entire herd. Many legends concern the 744-metre hill and its famous semi-precious stones and garnets. Dwarfs and their king Granát guard its inner treasures. An etymological tale derives its name from a goat, koza, that kicked up gold and gems with its hoof in Radostný quarry.
