The Devil's Stake

Above the village stands eight-metre-high Jarcovská kula, a natural rock curiosity also called the Devil's Stake. The devil dropped it here when a farmer's wife challenged him to build a mill on the hill and divert the Bečva overnight to win her daughter's hand. The girl had earlier boastfully invited ‘the devil himself’ to dance. Surprised by a cock crowing, the fiend dropped the final stone, burying the cottage with mother and daughter inside.
