Chržín · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Devil's menhir

Between Chržín and Loučka a large boulder with shallow grooves was shown in the fields. Local people called them the marks of the devil's claws. It supposedly commemorated a wager between St George and the devil over who could throw a stone farther from Mount Říp. The devil threw his this far, but St George's reached beyond Velvary, to the site where the town's church was founded.
