An old legend says that whenever something bad is about to happen in the town, a stag's ghost appears at night, racing from Valy past the church of the Holy Trinity to the château and back. It is linked to a variant of a tale known elsewhere: a cruel lord once had a serf tied to the stag, and both drowned in the Cidlina. In some interpretations the stag itself was the apparition of the evil Count Matyáš.
