A legend attached to this 735m hill tells of the miraculous rescue of inhabitants who took refuge here during the Tatar invasion of 1241. It is said that an underground army sleeps inside the hill, ready to help Moravia against its enemies. Hollow drumming and the pounding of horses' hooves are often heard from within. Some believe the army dates from the Tatar wars; others think it is supported by the miraculous Virgin Mary of Hostýn. (See Bystřice pod Hostýnem.)
