Near Zaháj, northwest of Hluboká, famous for a bloody defeat of French troops in the mid-eighteenth century, lay a great marsh. Legend says a wagon carrying the French army’s main treasury sank into it. Will-o’-the-wisps supposedly appeared here, enticing travellers towards the treasure.
