After the death of a sinful Franciscan monk who served as bell-ringer here, Hejnice’s bells refused to ring. Only when a huntsman skilled in magic carried his spirit, in the form of a black cockerel, to the peat pools at Na čihadlech on the slope of Černá hora and threw it into the water did the bells ring again.
