Twelve silver statues of the apostles and a golden Christ supposedly once sank into the earth near the Virgin Mary statue on Havlíčkův Brod’s square. They still lie somewhere below, and miners have tried to excavate them. The statues are said to have come from the Jesuit treasure at Kutná Hora. When their order was dissolved, the Jesuits had the figures cast and transported to Havlíčkův Brod by a blindfolded carter. On the square they asked whether he could find his way back. When he said yes, they burned out his eyes. At that instant the statues supposedly sank underground.
