Godula - Hora · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Golden-Headed Serpent

The mountain, also called Hodovnice (738 m), is one of the sacred hills of the ancient Slavs. A pagan sacrificial site stood here and great feasts were held, giving it its name. The serpent king Zlatohlavec, Golden Head, lives on the summit. A tale about him follows a pattern known elsewhere. He guards treasures hidden in the mountain. Another version says that a castle once stood here and its buried cellars hold the treasures of the Black Princess of Těšín. See Český Těšín.
