Dubenec · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

Gold Fever

An old fortified manor once stood on Zámecký vrch. Because it stood above Kalinovec Mill, it was often known by that name. A legend persisted of a treasure hidden beneath it. As early as the 1780s, the manor site therefore attracted soldiers stationed in nearby villages during the construction of Josefov Fortress. Seeking the imagined treasure, they sifted through the entire ruin piece by piece. Traces of the ditch and bank they dug can still be found. People also still speak of a buried passage through which one could escape from the original Dubenec manor to Chotěborky during a siege.
