Dobronice U Bechyně · STORY FROM THE ATLAS

The Liar Stone

In the Lužnice River near the village lies a stone bearing marks of the devil’s claws. Old raftsmen called it the Liar Stone. It was left by the devil after he wagered that he could bring a stone from Rome before the priest finished Mass in the local church of the Virgin Mary. He lost and hurled the stone into the Lužnice riverbed. It is called this because he lied. See Prague–Vyšehrad.
