North of Vyšší Brod, mighty rocks stand in the Vltava's riverbed among rapids called the Devil's Currents. According to legend, devils wanted to build a dam and suddenly flood the monastery then under construction in Vyšší Brod. They failed to finish overnight, but the stones remain as a reminder. The steep rocks above the rapids are called the Devil's Wall, and the highest point the Devil's Pulpit. This rock is also nicknamed Strašidelník, though its name comes from the watch post it once was on the border.
